Lord Stunell

LONDON

Andrew Stunell is the Liberal Democrat spokesperson on the Construction Industry in the House of Lords. His focus is on post-Grenfell safety legislation, and on the challenge of delivering zero carbon homes and infrastructure.

He was previously an MP for 18 years serving variously as Chief Whip and then shadow Secretary of State for Environment, and DCLG.  As a backbench MP he steered the Sustainable and Secure Building Act into law, laying the foundations for later moves towards zero carbon homes.  Serving as a DCLG Minister in the Coalition government from 2010 to ’12 he steered the Localism Act through the Commons, worked on the drafting of the National Planning Policy Framework (NPPF), and introduced the uprating of energy performance standards in buildings in 2011.

Andrew studied architecture at Manchester University before taking up a 20 year career in construction in the North West, on industrial, retail and housing projects.
