Helen graduated from Bradford University with a BA in Modern Languages (French and Spanish) with Economics. She worked at the National Railway Museum in York from 1982 to 2014, rising from a junior admin role to Head of Knowledge & Collections in 2003 and standing in as Acting Director for six months in 2009-10. Taking early retirement in February 2014, Helen became a freelance heritage consultant and, in partnership with colleague Steve Davies MBE, set up the International Railway Heritage Consultancy, working with heritage railways and museum worldwide. In her spare time she is Chair of the Friends of the Sierra Leone National Railway Museum, an Officer in the Boys’ Brigade, a Director of the Bahamas Locomotive Society and Trustee for Education and Heritage at the Welshpool & Llanfair Light Railway. She was awarded the OBE in 2011 for services to railway heritage.
